Inquiring Minds Want to Go! LIGO Light, Color & Waves Teacher Workshop
July 13 @ 9:00 am - July 16 @ 3:30 pm
Join the LIGO (the Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory) Science Education Center for a four-day workshop focused on Light, Color and Waves using physical science interactives. You’ll learn about light, color, and what is meant by light waves from LIGO Education and Public Outreach staff — former teachers who have been trained by the San Francisco Exploratorium on inquiry methods and science education.
Day one and four of the workshop will take place at GNO STEM at the University of New Orleans Oliver St. Pe' TRAC Center, while day 2 and 3 will take place at LIGO where participants will attend a special guided field trip to the LIGO Science Education Center in Livingston – an experience not to be missed! Busing will be provided for participants from the Greater New Orleans area. Participants will explore the exhibits at LIGO to understand how they relate to color and light. Participants will take home activities they can engage their students with using easily obtained materials.
Completion of this workshop will qualify you for priority booking for your class for an extraordinary hands-on science field trip experience at the LIGO Science Education Center in Livingston, LA and financial support for bus transportation for your students. LIGO’s interactive displays are wonderfully designed to teach and motivate students!
Teachers will receive a $100 daily stipend for successful completion of the workshop thanks to LIGO. Notes: Teachers must attend all workshop days. In the event that COVID-19 still requires significant social distancing, staff are working on a backup option that would entail a virtual workshop.
A limited number of seats are a available. There is a $25 refundable registration fee to reserve your spot. The registration fee will be returned upon successful completion of the LIGO workshop.
