Computer Science Professional Development for K-3 Teachers

GNO STEM is happy to announce a professional development opportunity for teachers of grades K-3 in the area of computer science utilizing research-based, effective instructional methods and promoting problem-solving, critical thinking, and collaborative learning.
Upon completion of the workshop, teachers will be prepared to deliver computer science instruction during Computer Science Education Week, December 6-12, 2021, as well as throughout the remainder of the school year.
The 3-hour long professional development will include the following:
- 1-hour training on the use of Bee-Bots, hand-held computers used by young students to learn coding. Teachers will receive a Bee-Bot computer and coding cards to bring back to their class.
- 1-hour training on an “unplugged” activity requiring no computer, where students use coding cards to complete a task.
- 1-hour training in using Tinkercad, a free web app that teaches 3D design, electronics, and coding and exposes young children to thinking three-dimensionally while manipulating shapes to create a design.
Teachers participating in the workshop will receive a $100 stipend upon completion of the PD. There is a $20 refundable deposit that will be refunded to teachers upon completion of the PD. Space is limited, so sign up now!
